WARM São Paulo tem o prazer de apresentar “This has nothing to do with this or same as it never was”, a primeira exposição de Henrik Olai Kaarstein (1989, Oslo – Noruega) no Brasil.

Com um título que deliberadamente nos traz ideia de semelhança imperfeita, de comparação imprópria, de possíveis conexões desligadas, assume-se que similaridade não é falta de equidade mas uma busca complexa pelo único.

A similaridade de Henrik vem da capacidade de apagar o passado após inspirar-se, criando um novo presente de diversidade complexa, reforçando a utopia do pensar “right here, right now”, do cancelamento e reencontro como uma forma de viver a experiência do progresso.

Enaltece-se a arrogância de ser único, da negação do passado após a eliminação do supérfluo e do inútil, possível de ser lembrado não como sendo o mesmo, afinal, de um jeito ou de outro, você deve sempre “liderar e não ser liderado”.

O trabalho de Henrik cancela e retoma valores, usando a estética e a finalidade original dos objetos como suporte para suas obras. Isso acontece através da manipulação de tecido, papel, madeira e uma variedade de agentes transformadores, em um trabalho que tem a pintura como conceito principal, mas que explora possibilidades de forjar e criar diversas visões do que potencialmente é casual.

Os limites da familiaridade e da intimidade são expostos e projetados em uma nova estética, que cancela a funcionalidade de objetos comuns e os altera para o privado, íntimo e muitas vezes sexual.

O quente tom de suas cores e os ativos químicos usados em seu processo, catalisam o olhar do espectador, deixando o valor estético e pictórico para depois.

Estes envolventes resultados, sempre no meio do caminho entre o concreto e o invisível, afetam e alteram a materialidade de objetos, como em D, um gesto colaborativo entre Henrik Olai Kaarsten e Julian Tromp (1993, Vienna), que combina sons que se dissolvem, criando uma harmonia que une e totaliza o trabalho. Kaarstein dá vida e finaliza seus trabalhos na camada mais próxima do espectador, entendo que a superfície não é falta de complexidade, ao contrário disso, está encharcada da simplicidade do pensamento que a pintura não precisa ser justificada.

Henrik, atualmente representado pela galeria T293 (Roma/Nápoles), vive e trabalha entre Oslo e Frankfurt e é graduando da Städelschule (Frankfurt).

Warm São Paulo is pleased to present “This has nothing to do with this or same as it never was” the first solo show of Henrik Olai Kaarstein’s (1989, Oslo – Norway) in Brazil.

With a title that recalls deliberately the idea of an imperfect similarity, an improper comparison, a disconnected connection, this show puts all its strength on idea that the similarity is not a lack of equality, but a complex search of uniqueness.

Henrik’s similarity arises from the ability to undo the past after having been inspired from it, creating a new present of a simple complex diversity, bringing out the utopia of “right here, right now”, thinking that cancel and re-found is a way to live the experience of the progress.

Praising the arrogance of being single, one and only, of denying the past after trowing away the superfluous and useless, up to resemble it, but without being the same, because, in any case, you should always “lead and not be led”.

Henrik’s work, cancel and  resets the value, the aesthetics and the original finality of found objects and use them as surfaces or supports for his production.

Though the manipulation of  textiles, paper, and wood with a range of transformation agents, his work moves  through the core of painting, and the possibilities of forge and create new and different views of usual, changing  radically the prospective of the commonplace.

The limits of familiarity and intimacy go off and project ourselves toward a new aesthetic, canceling the functionality of ordinary objects and changing their most deep, private or sexual connotations.

The heated tone of the colors or industrial chemicals used in the process, catalyze the viewer’s eyes, leaving the aesthetic value and pictorial as last result.

An enveloping result, halfway between concrete and fade, bending and changing the materiality of objects, or, as in D, a collaborative gesture between Henrik Olai Kaarstein and Julian Tromp (1993, Vienna), which merges with a music that  play with the element of fade, creating a harmony that unites and totals the work. Henrik Olai Kaarstein creates works finished in it’s shallowness, understanding the surface, not as lack of complexity, which indeed is soaked by the simplicity of thinking that the paint does not need to be justified.

Henrik lives and works  in Oslo and Frankfurt , where he is graduating from the Städelschule later this year. He is represented by T293 Gallery, Rome/ Naples.
